This is a football club that has challenged its motivation for youth development from ages 4 to 16 for over a decade. What began as a simple idea — give young people a safe place to play and learn the game — has grown into a community that families in and around Ibadan have come to trust with their children.
Five years ago, this football club started weekend soccer to encourage youths who have an interest in football, but school academies are so tight during the weekdays. The weekend sessions were the answer: a time when children who are busy with school from Monday to Friday could still train, play and develop without their education getting in the way.
How we started
The club’s weekend soccer started inside Oluyole Estate Grammar School. It was a humble beginning — a school pitch, a group of eager children and coaches determined to give them the best possible start in the game.
But now at Liberty Stadium, Ibadan. Just from the picture above, two of the players are currently in the UK pursuing their careers, and many more have gone on to bigger things. Moving to a proper stadium was a big step for the club, and it shows how far the children and their coaches have come together.
On game development, as small as our boys are, in the ongoing U9 Luki league we are in 4th position. For a young side still learning the game, holding a place in the table is a proud sign of the progress they are making week after week.
But today the glory of God has taken us here. From a school field to a stadium, and from a handful of children to a growing club with players now abroad, the journey has been one to be grateful for.
