AFCON 2025 GROUP THE THREE-TIME AFCON WINNERS NIGERIA WILL FEATURE TUNISIA IN GROUP C

The draw for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, scheduled for 21 December 2025 to 18 January 2026 in Morocco, has been released, and Morocco is going to be the host for the 2025 AFCON for the first time since 1988. Twenty-four nations are going to fight for one cup.

Group A: Morocco, Mali, Zambia, Comoros
Group B: Egypt, South Africa, Angola, Zimbabwe
Group C: Nigeria, Tunisia, Uganda, Tanzania
Group D: Senegal, DR Congo, Benin Republic, Botswana
Group E: Algeria, Burkina Faso, Equatorial Guinea, Sudan
Group F: Cote d’Ivoire, Cameroon, Gabon, Mozambique

How the tournament is set up
General reference: as with recent editions, the 24 qualified nations are split into six groups of four. Each side plays the other three in its group once, and the group stage is followed by the knockout rounds. The top two from every group, along with the four best third-placed sides, go through to the round of 16, from where it becomes a straight knockout all the way to the final.

Nigeria in Group C
The Super Eagles, three-time AFCON winners, have been drawn in Group C alongside Tunisia, Uganda and Tanzania. Tunisia are among the more experienced sides on the continent and are traditionally one of Nigeria’s tougher group-stage tests, while Uganda and Tanzania will each be looking to cause an upset. It is a group Nigeria will fancy their chances in, but one that will demand focus from the first whistle.

Hosts and history
Morocco staging the tournament is a notable moment in itself, marking the country’s return as AFCON hosts for the first time since 1988. Host nations often draw on strong home support, and Morocco’s recent form on the international stage adds to the interest around Group A.
